No one is ever really prepared for when a family member or a loved one passes away, for only Allah (S.W.T.) knows when a person will face death. However, following these steps may be helpful:
Reporting The Death
Depending on the circumstances, you may need to call the Police to come to the scene of death. Otherwise, you will need to walk in to the local Police Station with the death certificate and the deceased's Identification Documents (eg. NRIC) to register the death.
Getting The Death Certified
Family Doctor
In most cases where the deceased passed away at home, and he/she has a medical history, a Family Doctor may be called in to certify the death.
Post-Mortem
If the circumstances of death was sudden and unexpected, a Post-Mortem by a Coroner may be necessary. In those circumstances, the Police may be called in to advice.
